Tandem has released IPM to fix this problem. I quote:
HOTSTUFF HS02190
OPN T9551 TCPIP - PING OF DEATH IPM RELEASED
12DEC96
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
An outage in TANDEM NSK TCPIP can happen if a user from another
system runs the PING program with a data block size > 32767 bytes.
The problem is described in detail in the "Ping O'Death Page"
at the following World Wide Web location:
http://www.sophist.demon.co.uk/ping/index.html
For D30 and D40 versions, TCPIP will go into some tight
loops. For D20 TCPIP, it could lead to a cpu halt.
Releases affected: All
FIX DESCRIPTION:
The following class C IPMs are available to fix this
problem:
T9551ACX for D30.
T9551ACY for D42.
No IPM has been planned for D20 TCPIP as D20 is at its end of
life.
For further information, please read the softdoc for these IPMs.
